ALPINE DEVELOPMENT TEAM

Kindergarten-Grade 3 Only

The Development Program is designed for young skiers who have progressed beyond Learn to Ski (prior participation in our Learn to Ski program is not required!) but are not yet ready for our Freestyle or U8/U10 Alpine programs. It serves as a bridge between programs, giving skiers additional time to build confidence, independence, and strong fundamental skills before taking the next step.

Through plenty of time on snow, games, and fun with friends, skiers work on improving balance, turning, stopping, speed control, and rope tow skills while becoming more comfortable on different terrain and in varying snow conditions. Coaches meet each skier where they are, helping them develop the skills and confidence to eventually transition into another Abenaki program or simply become a strong recreational skier.

Most importantly, our goal is for kids to have fun, gain confidence, and develop a lifelong love of skiing.

To participate, children must be able to independently ride the main Abenaki rope tow at least halfway up, ski down, and come to a controlled stop.

Training Schedule

Offered Wednesdays from 4:30–5:30 PM or Saturdays from 11:30 AM–12:30 PM. Participants must register for a specific day.
The program begins the first week of January and runs through the end of February. There are no sessions in December or March.

Required Equipment

Each participant must have:

Skis
Properly fitted ski boots
Ski helmet
Durable leather mittens or gloves (such as Kinco), as other materials may not withstand regular use of the rope tow
Appropriate snow pants and jacket

Ski poles are not needed for this program.

Seasonal equipment rentals are available for an additional cost through our partnership with Ski Works in Ossipee, NH.

Preparing for Practice

Participants should be dressed and ready in their ski gear at least five minutes before their scheduled start time so the group can begin on time.

Season Pass

All Abenaki Outing Club participants must purchase an Abenaki Ski Area season pass through Wolfeboro Parks & Recreation.

Scholarships

We are committed to keeping skiing accessible to all families. Scholarships are available to help with program fees, season passes, and equipment costs.
